Welcome from the HeadteacherIn 2015, I became the proud Headteacher of a small school with a big personality and huge ambitions. Since that time there have been so many highlights due to the children’s endeavours, including being recognised in the top 1% of schools for our reading outcomes, enjoying muddy walks for charity, completing countryside stewardship projects, winning many sports tournaments and always putting on a great whole school performance for our wonderful families! Indeed, we believe children should be seen and heard, so our ‘Expressive Curriculum’ is key to developing confident and successful learners who can communicate, question and debate. This clear focus continues as we move into 2021 with the arrival of new podcast and filming equipment to inspire a love of words!
We invite you to check out all we have to offer, just 11 minutes from Tavistock town centre and 18 minutes from Launceston: there is little doubt that our beautiful grounds complete with forest school woods, garden pavilion and enormous multi-use games area make the first impression on any visitor. However, the lasting impression we make is through our passion for learning, the care we offer our children (including breakfast club (£4 a session) and after school clubs (for just £1), and our determination that every child will achieve their potential and beyond - “better never stops!” If your child is starting school in September 2021(or even September 2022) or you are looking for a change, then we warmly welcome visits to suit you. Call Milton Abbot Primary School on 01822 870273. Best wishes - Mr Christopher Luxford BA Hons |
LEARNING THROUGH PLAY

Our Reading RoostReading for knowledge, reading for pleasure! Reading is central to our teaching and learning at Milton Abbot School, and a key challenge is to ensure children are not only enjoying their reading but are keen to challenge themselves to read widely, which helps build vocabulary and comprehension skills.
