Welcome to the Milton Abbot School Safeguarding Circle
We take our duty of care and responsibility for promoting healthy welfare very seriously. We are all fully committed to the Department for Education statement: ‘Everyone has a duty to safeguard children and protect them from harm.’ This is taken from the DfE document ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education': (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/keeping-children-safe-in-education--2), which is a central pillar to our ethos, systems and actions. It states clearly:
"Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined for the purposes of this guidance as: protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes."
Our ‘Safeguarding Circle’ represents the robust, joined up systems at Milton Abbot School that encircle our children to fully protect and shield them from harm. 'Keeping Children Safe in Education', lists such possible harm as: abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse and neglect.
You will also find details for our school and Governor safeguarding team, as well as clear links to all our relevant policies. Finally, it is about signposting you (whether you’re a parent, a child or a concerned member of our community) to other useful information and external agencies, so you can feel supported and nothing is left to chance.
The Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub
One such agency, and a central cog in the Devon safeguarding system is the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH).
The MASH is the central resource for the Devon local Authority area receiving all serious safeguarding and child protection enquiries. The MASH is staffed with professionals from a range of agencies including police, probation, fire, ambulance, health, education and social care. These professionals share information to ensure early identification of potential significant harm, and trigger interventions to prevent further harm to children. Telephone: 0345 155 1071.
