Computing

Computing

"Technology is best when it brings people together."Matt Mullenweg

At Milton Abbot School, our Computing curriculum equips children with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We aim to develop confident, creative and responsible users of technology who understand how digital systems work and how technology can be used safely, effectively and imaginatively.

Through a broad and balanced curriculum, children learn the key areas of computing: Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy. They develop their understanding of programming, data, networks and digital media whilst learning how to stay safe and responsible online. Computing provides opportunities for pupils to solve problems, think logically and use technology creatively to communicate, collaborate and create.

Our curriculum helps children to:

  • Understand how computers and digital systems work.
  • Develop computational thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Design, write and debug programs.
  • Create and evaluate digital content.
  • Use technology purposefully to communicate and share information.
  • Become safe, respectful and responsible digital citizens.

Our school values are at the heart of Computing:

Mindfulness

Children learn to use technology thoughtfully, safely and responsibly. They develop an understanding of their digital footprint, online wellbeing and the importance of balancing screen time with other activities. Pupils are encouraged to think carefully about their actions online and show respect for themselves and others in digital spaces.

Ambition

Computing inspires children to be innovative and forward-thinking. Pupils are encouraged to explore new technologies, tackle increasingly complex challenges and develop the confidence to create their own digital solutions. Through coding, digital design and problem-solving, children learn to aim high and embrace new opportunities.

Perseverance

Computing teaches children that mistakes are an important part of learning. Whether debugging a program or solving a technical problem, pupils learn to approach challenges with resilience and determination. They develop the confidence to test, refine and improve their work, understanding that persistence often leads to success.

Success

Every child has opportunities to achieve and succeed through Computing. Pupils build confidence as they master new skills, create digital content and solve real-world problems. Success is celebrated through creativity, collaboration, innovation and the ability to apply computing skills across the curriculum and beyond.

By the time they leave Milton Abbot, our children will be digitally literate, responsible and confident learners who can use technology safely and effectively. They will have developed the computational thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills needed to succeed in education, future careers and life in a rapidly changing digital world.
