Learning: At Milton Abbot School we follow the National Curriculum requirements for Physical Education, Health and Well-being throughout the academic year. All pupils undertake gymnastics, dance, games, athletics, swimming, outdoor and adventurous activities. Every child will take part in Forest School activities using our school woods. The children in Years 5 and 6 will also experience an outdoor and adventurous residential trip in the summer term! The children and staff have an opportunity to experience a wider variety of sport with specialist sports coaches. We currently have links with Tavistock College Community Sports Centre, OCRA West Devon Sport, Mark Wickett Soccer School and Mount Kelly Swimming Pool. This includes Multi-skills and football, on a weekly basis, with Mark Wickett Soccer School. For more information visit: http://www.markwickettsoccerschool.co.uk/ Specialist coaches teach swimming to Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 pupils at Mount Kelly Pool in Tavistock. Throughout the year the children will also experience alternative sports with OCRA, this includes: rugby, basketball, fencing and much more! The school grounds for P.E include a sports field, MUGA (Multi use games area), school hall, front lawn, playground along with garden areas. Using our recent lottery funding ‘Get your boots on!’ The Year 5 and 6 children are currently planning an outdoor adventure trim trail and climbing frame along with new playground markings.

Extra curricular sports and physical activities: We are currently able to offer a wide range of activities after school and at lunchtimes, this includes football, cross country, dance, seasonal club, music, athletics, hockey, tag rugby, skipping, forest school, art and gardening. We hope to develop the children’s interest for life along with promoting healthy lifestyles.
The Government has provided additional funding of £150 million per annum for academic years 2014/2015, 2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19, to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding in order to improve the provision of physical education and sport in primary schools. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to schools to be spent on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.
